As these photos were uploading o this post, I couldn't help but stop and look at the faces of these young men. My mind began to wonder how many of them went off to war and never came home. Then I thought about my Grandpa Bob, my Grandma Marj, my Uncle George Best, my Uncle Thompsy Best, my Uncle Joe Leah, my Uncle Mark Guinan, my Uncle Warren Guinan, my Uncle George Imm, and all of my other family members who served in the military during World War Two. I had to stop and thank my Father in Heaven they all made it home safely, especially Uncle George Best. Uncle George went through so much and I thank him for his sacrifice, along with all the members of the armed forces, both past and present. They gave up so much during that time in history. As Tom Brokaw stated about them, they are the "greatest generation" and I can only pray that I may someday live up to the name I have been so fortunate to share with them, the opportunities they have so selflessly given me because of their sacrifices. I don't know any of the young men in these pages, but I know my Grandma Marj did. They all meant something to her and therefore they mean something to me. They were her friends. They went through hell to preserve the freedom I enjoy. May their memory live on through my actions and may their sacrifices not be in vain. I hadn't intended to write these words, but as I stared at the faces of the Varsity Football teams from Nebraska and Indiana, I could feel their eyes piercing my soul and I could almost hear their voices telling me to write at least something, and so I write this:
To the members of the Greatest Generation this world has ever produced, I thank you with all of my heart and soul. Your sacrifices have preserved my freedom, and I can never repay you for what you have done for me or for what you have allowed me to have, but I will do my best to make sure your sacrifices were not in vain.
