The Purpose of this Blog

Dear Family and Friends,

The purpose of this blog is to post pictures of the Best Family and their Friends. Although the name of the blog states the pictures are from 1942 to 1972, the plan is to post any and all pictures of the Best Family which are available. I have spent several hours already going through a box containing several pictures my Aunt Betsy gave to my family a few years ago and scanning them in preparation for posting them. In the process, I discovered several pictures were not just pictures. They were newspaper articles about weddings and deaths. There were magazine articles about cars and a very delicious looking Waldorf Salad made with Miracle Whip (although I'm not sure how Miracle Whip is a miracle, but that's beside the point). Then there were pictures, and lots of them. Old color washed pictures. Older black and white pictures. Pictures of friends of my cousins from high school. Pictures of my great-grandparents. I started thinking it would be a good idea to share these with everyone who might want to look at them. And then I continued thinking, I have an old book of pictures and articles about my Grandma Marj and her friends and family that my Aunt Betsy had given me. Why should I stop with just the pictures and articles in the box? Why not scan everything from my Grandma Marj's book? That way, many years from now, my cousins, my siblings, our children, their grandchildren, and the rest of the generations to come and those living right now can enjoy them. They can learn about their ancestors and the things they experienced. They can see what they look like. They could even one day write a paper on them because they have everything they need all in one place. This past Sunday, the speakers at church spoke about Family History. One of the speakers spoke on how Family History is not just Genealogy. And it's true. Family History is so much more. Sometimes we don't know where to start and so when we type in a name on a Family History site, the results we get can be overwhelming. But if we know a few more things about our family members, it makes it that much easier and makes it even more fun. So the purpose of this blog is to make Family History fun by letting those who are doing research see what their ancestors look like, and read about the things they experienced. As a friend of mine once said, "Think of it as Facebooking for dead people." They are right. And so I hope everyone enjoys the fruits of my labors.

Sincerely,
Amanda
